NCH MANAGEMENT IS FIGHTING AGAINST OUR NURSES UNION BECAUSE THEY WANT TO HOLD AND CONTROL ALL THE POWER.
MANAGEMENT
OUR NURSES UNION
“THE UNION IS A THIRD PARTY.”
We are the union! Our fellow nurses, with representation from different departments, will be at the table negotiating our contract. AFSCME is here to help us, but it’s us who decides what’s bargained over and it’s us who makes any final decisions.
“YOU’LL LOSE YOUR FLEXIBILITY.”
Management can make changes without our input at any time, and they do. What’s protecting our flexibility now? A union contract gives us the ability to fight for contractual flexibility that can’t be taken away from us on a whim.
“YOU WON’T GET YOUR INCENTIVE PAY.”
Right now our incentive pay is arbitrary and management can take it away at any time. On top of everything else, as a union we’ll fight for what we deserve. A contract ensures our wages and incentives are protected.
“WE OFFER COMPETITIVE WAGES.”
NCH culture is to not discuss wages. We don’t know what our coworkers make or if a new nurse is making as much as a senior nurse. Unionizing is the only way to ensure competitive wage transparency.
“DUES ARE EXPENSIVE.”
Dues are $56.80 per month. If we don’t think what we’ve gained in a union contract outweighs our cost in dues, we’ll vote down the contract. We’ll keep working until we get a contract we believe is worth the price of dues.
“WHO DO YOU TRUST?”
Unionizing is about nurses having nurses’ backs. Right now, we are relying on the ‘goodwill’ of C-Suite executives, many of whom have not set foot on the hospital floor, while we have no say.
