Dear Fellow NCH Nurse,
We, the organizing committee of the Nationwide Nurses Union, have come together from across the hospital — RNs and APNs, day shift and night shift, outpatient and inpatient, research and BHP — to fight for the autonomy and respect that our hard work has earned us. Together, we have the power to create lasting change for ourselves and our patients, and to make Nationwide Children’s Hospital the best place it can be.
Our efforts on the frontline make this one of our nation’s leading children’s hospitals, providing care for the most vulnerable patients, the underserved, and the community at large. Despite our tireless work for our patients, C-Suite executives (who don’t regularly spend time on patient floors) continue to make decisions that compromise patient care and our wellbeing. We deserve a say in our working conditions and a seat at the bargaining table to influence the decisions that impact us and our patients.
Progress so far:
Since starting our unionization efforts this past year, management at NCH has provided multiple concessions in an attempt to dissuade us from further organizing:
- $1.50 raise for RNs — but not APNs
- 8 extra hours of PTO prorated on FTE status — but APNs and RNs in the clinics still lose 8 hours of PTO every holiday
- Increased parental leave
- Lower healthcare deductibles for 2026 — but higher premiums
- $0.30 per hour increase in shift differentials
- $1.50 per hour raise for Charge nurses — the first raise in many years
- New security measures, including metal detectors
- More retirement offerings with Roth 403B
These concessions prove that there is much more to gain by standing together as One Team. Hospital management’s strategy so far has been to appease us, but without our union, there’s no way to ensure these benefits won’t be taken away. Now is the time to get involved.
What’s next?
The nurses and APNs at NCH work relentlessly to make this a safe and welcoming place for our patients and families — now let’s make it a place where we can ALL thrive. Come to a union information meeting, talk to your coworkers, and learn why this matters — and how we get across the finish line.
Take this survey to show your support, learn how you can get involved, and share what changes you’d like to push forward to make NCH the best it can be.
